What skis have the best reputation for being reliable? Was thinking of pickuping a ski or 2 for when family come by so nothing to break the bank.

Are any of the older 2 stokes worth looking at? I see ski's for sale all thime as pair not running with trailers but never know what to take a chance on.

New here, Looking for advice on a purchase

Hello All,

Im sure this question has been asked a million times but I wasn't able to find any threads specific to mine. I live in Tampa, Florida and I am in the market to purchase two new Jet Skis. Im leaning towards Sea Doo or Yamaha. Probably the 3 seaters with some power. Can someone give me the pros and cons of Sea Doo and Yamaha and preferences of models? I want to buy new because I don't want to be concerned about the abuse from the previous owner(s). There are two places here locally that I have in mind, Barney's and Tampa Bay Power sports. Has any one had any experience with either of these places? I will be riding in the bay, inter coastal and maybe on the lakes around central Florida. But i want the ride to be able to handle the open water as well in the event we want to go to the islands. Any input, advice or education would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

TD

2013 gtr 215 help

Ok, so I don't know whats going on. I Have a 2013 GTR 215 with 22 hours on it. Last year i noticed it was running weird. i would hit the throttle and it had slow acceleration and speed, but then it would get short spurts of power then run fine. So i changed the spark plugs, did a oil change and it ended up running fine. This year i go to take it out and it runs horrible. When i hit the gas, the motor sounds rough, i have no acceleration, and my top speed is 40mph even in sport mode. The motor has like a fluttering sound. I have checked the spark plugs and they look good and they all have good spark. i checked the injectors and there all spraying good. the oil level is good and there was no metal shavings in the oil filter. I put in a new battery, checked all the fuses and there good. i don't know what else to try please help

thanks

Yamaha XLT1200 changing oil lines!! ISSUE

Just picked up XLT1200 recently. 120lbs compression across the board. Decided to replace the oil lines. Got some TYGON line with clamps, and replaced them with no issues. Got a syringe and injected some oil back into the lines to fill them back up. To be safe, I was told to run some premix in the gas to ensure cyls wouldnt be starved of oil. Was told to run a 50:1 mixture. Engine was also rebuilt end of december/ carbs serviced and rebuilt, D plate installed. Figured the 50:1 would give new cyl some good lubrication also. First time on water yesterday and after couple mins of a slow ride to warm up motor, it started to BOG down when hitting throttle. went <5 mph back to dock to be safe. Plugs looked fine, didnt sound like it was missing on any cyls. checked impeller, nothing stuck. So pulled ski out of water and fired it up on trailer. Gave it a couple revs, and after some boggy revs, it cleared out and revved back to normal.

My question, --- There are 10 gallons of fuel in my tank, with a 50:1 premix. Oil injection also hooked up. Is this way too much oil, causing it to load up and bog down? Out of water with no load on engine, it clears out and i can rev high. But in water, it gets loaded up and bogs down.

Before this, I had no premix in my gas and rode it and it ran great. But in other forums, I've seen people say run 50:1 with new cyls or with new oil lines for the first tank to play it safe.

1990 550SX no start after carb rebuild

All, I pulled my buddies JetSki out of storage for many years to try and revive her.

The idiot left gas in the tank when he stored it, its been 8 years or so. (I'm sure the proper thing to do is full rebuild but that's not an option right now.)

I pulled the tank out and emptied the old fuel. Cleaned to filters on the fuel pick ups in the tank, added new, fresh pre-mix. I then rebuilt the carb (I have a shop manual so I am confidant that I put the diaphrams and gaskets back in the right order.

The ski will not start. It will sputter if I pour gas in the carb, but there is a fuel issue.

I also cleaned out the sediment bowl before turning over with fresh gas.

I do have spark.

Would love some ideas about where I can check that I might have a fuel line issue. I also checked the check valve on the gas tank and it works properly.

Thanks in advance.

SKI will not stay running

I have 1997 sea do Gsx. I have replaced the key fob and had the Dess key tuned to the ski. It will crank up and run fine then just die. We can crank it again and it will just keep repeating the cycle. I have had it at two shops and not fixed yet. Any suggestions? It runs fine when running, therefore I am assuming its electrical related.

Blow off valves

I am kinda new to waverunners but not new to performance engines and mods. I feel like the Yamaha SHO and SVHO engines are in dire need of a blow off valve in their systems to reduce or eliminate compressor surge there by reducing the need to rebuild supercharger clutches every 100 hrs. So during my search I find these 2 valves which look identical and could even be identical but are prices way differently. Does anyone know the facts on these? Hope someone can help me understand the difference. Sorry I can't link yet!

96 GTI won't start...faint clicking...HELP

So I recently bought a couple seadoos (96 GTI and 99 XP), thinking I got a pretty good deal... 2k for 2 skis and a double trailer? Anyways we took them out on the river and the XP ran fine, but the GTI ran fine for a bit then starting wanting to bog down and had some surges in power. I figured it was a fuel problem so I took the carbs out and cleaned them and replaced the gray lines. Some of the lines were so gunked up I don't know how anything was getting through them. After putting it all back together, it wasn't getting fuel so I put some premix fuel in the spark plug well and got it to run. Idled high on first start...second start was a pretty weak idle. The next day I come out to start it up and adjust the idle... no luck just a loud click after a few times trying to start it...I take the seat off and find gas from a loose fuel line I failed to reattach (probably not related to the clicks). I check the battery...cables are good so I figure weak battery...so I swap out the battery from the XP which I checked to make sure it would start the XP....This time the click is weaker and sounds like it's coming from the gray mpem box ...I cross terminals on the solenoid with no luck or spark...so I guess it's good?

I'm thinking bad Starter or possible bad ground?????
Maybe bad MPEM? The guy I bought it from said he just replaced the MPEM last year though.

Any ideas or help is much appreciated. I'm new the jet ski world and the wife is wanting this thing on the water in a few days for our anniversary!

2001 XLT1200 - No pull when power applied

Engine was rebuilt and runs fine, main shaft and mid shaft splines stripped at the beginning of last year and were replaced. Waverunner ran fine with the new shafts until the end of last year.

The machine rides fine at idle with expected speed, as soon as power is applied there is no pull at all. The machine never runs faster than idle speed, the engine revs fine. I assumed that the splines stripped again. I just finished pulling the entire drive line and the splines are perfect. I did install an intake seal kit a few weeks ago but it had no effect.

My thoughts:

Could there be a crack in the intake channel fiberglass allowing air into the intake?
Could the main thrust bearing be leaking? Does not seem to be any play?
How is the crankshaft coupler connected to the crankshaft? Is it part of the crankshaft or some sort of pin lock or press fit clutch?

When I disassembled the drive train I did note that when we installed the new shafts last year we had an improper gap between the crankshaft coupler and the mid shaft coupler. Specs call for 2-2.5 mm gap, we had 4 mm gap. Could this be the issue?

Kawasaki 1100 stx di question

I have a 2000 1100 stx di and had DFI refurb my EMM. Installed it and it ran perfect for about an hour. Then after parking it for about 20 mins, it started and then died and wouldn't restart. I brought it home and replaced the stator, compression is 150 on all 3 cylinders, put in a new fuel check relief valve as mine had failed, put in a new fuel/water filter, new gas cap, new spark plugs, checked the CPS and new battery. My fuel pump kicks on as I heard it fill the lines and the fuel filter basket. You can see the input and return gas lines slightly flex when attempting to start. I have good spark but it will not start or even attempt to start. My question is how did you test your injectors? Can you unbolt them and and attempt to turn over the motor to see if they spray gas? I was afraid that might damage the injectors? I'm worried my old fuel pump might not be strong enough and maintain pressure for the injectors? I have a new fuel pump motor I can swap out, but wanted to see if you had a way to check the injectors? I have disconnected them one at at time from their power supply and made no difference. The rebuilt EMM has 1 hour run time and is less than a month old, so it is under warranty. I did re-route my cooling lines so the EMM has a separate input and pisser. Water did exit the EMM pisser the whole time.

06 vx deluxe wont start

Hello. My 06 vx all of a sudden wouldn't start while on the water 2 days ago. It was doing great until it wouldn't start after about 10-20 minutes of being off. When I opened the seat, there was a lot of water in the engine bay. I suspect that it is from some stupid hole that is right behind the seat that the previous owner cannot explain to me why is there. But anyway, it had to be towed to the ramp.

Today i started to work on it. I'm Deaf, but my kids who can hear are telling me that whenever the start button is pressed, there's a single click along with a hum from the motor. it doesnt feel like its cranking. I also have a 07 vx deluxe so i swapped batteries and it still wouldn't start. Should I swap out the starter relay next? Thanks

1993 kawasaki TS 550

I have a pair of kawasaki that I just rebuilt the carbs on both. One runs fine, the other is getting too much fuel. I've tried adjusting the low and high which appear to do nothing to the way it runs. I've also tried different sized needle springs that either lean it way to much or dump even more fuel into it. I got to the point where I bought another rebuild kit in case one of the gaskets had gotten messed up and set it to the stock settings on the pilot screws and still too much fuel. Now it has a "runaway idle" and revs out without touching the throttle.
I'm starting to think there are missing seals on these screws/springs not allowing me to make any adjustments, this carb is new to me and I can't find consitant information on it. I have pulled them out and there is a plastic like bushing at the end of the spring, but found a diagram showing there should also be an oring with it?
Anyone have some insight or have experienced a "runaway idle" on these 2 strokes?
Thanks in advance!

I recently acquired an FX 1800 that was dunked in salt water but not running. The owner pulled it & fresh water flushed
X3 changed the fuel & oil immediately & restarted . It ran without incident for about 2 hours shut down & garaged. Following
Day it turns over good compression clean fuel clean oil but no spark in all 4 cylinders? Is this an EPU issue or a code I checked all the fuses & all seems ok just no spark even with new plugs?? Any suggestions?

Hi guys,

I have a speedo cluster here out of a ZXi 1100 that is in perfect working order that i am selling but trying to figure out a fair price as they range from a couple of hundred dollars to almost $1000.
On that note im happy to invite fair offers or a point in the right direction for a cluster in perfect condition.

I have put power to the cluster to show the screen working perfectly in photos and i also have a video i can send of it working and to show the great condition.

I am based in the UK but worldwide postage is not an issue and shouldnt be too expensive.

1998 GS w/717 gray fuel line issues

Having some problems that do not appear to be unique, but I just got a 98 GS & discovered the tempo fuel line mess after it started to hesitate at full throttle. Replaced all the fuel lines & filters & changed out the carb internal filter etc, but now it'll only run on premix straight into the carb. Can't seem to get it to pump fuel. Not sure if I need to prime the line all the way to the carb or what. Need Help :)

06 vx deluxe, what's this hole for?

The previous owner doesnt know why its there. I found a lot of water in this ski after my recent ride (it won't start now, and that's in another thread). It was the roughest ride with lots of wave jumping since I got this ski a few months ago. The other day I filled up the engine bay with water and nothing was coming out from the hull plate or any other source. So, i figured that the water came in from that hole.

What is it there for? I also have an identical 07 ski and the hole isn't on there.

Thanks!

SVHO2016 Ongoing issues

Long, short story

Bought March 2016 ran till May, hitting rev limiter/skipping on top end. Local dealer crappy went out of business, kept SKI for 6 months had to recover machine. Dealer said nothing wrong, I didn't know nothing about the SKI BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

Fast forward to December, took it to another dealer 80 miles away, closest to me. Told them same story. They said impeller was messed up and not under warranty wear item. Talked me into a RIVA stage one kit for 2000.00 would fix problem and (wake up machine). I agreed. Did not fix. Now here we are 6-22-2017 and here's whats been changed.

Dealer says the issue is a air pressure differential in the intake.

(Impeller, intake grate, blow-off valve, exhaust, engine air intake ducting, ETC, RIVA KIT), super charger clutch, throttle body, various sensors and other misc parts.

I'm at a loss any ideas
